Ski & fun at Sterzing

Rosskopf (948 – 2.176 metres above sea level) – The “sun terrace” of Sterzing

People from Sterzing really love their landmark mountain, in winter as well as in summer. Rosskopf is more than a skiing area; it is a leisure mountain throughout the year. (see: Hiking and bike).

The skier awaits 13 slope kilometres and 4chairlifts at reasonable prices. You reach the valley station easily by car (just a few hundred metres from your hotel), by the free of charge citybus (every hour) or by shanks’ mare. In only a few minutes you find yourself on the sun terrace of Sterzing high above the basin and you can enjoy the sun and the impressive view over the valley.

At Rosskopf the season already starts at the end of November. The snow-reliable location and a high-capacity artificial snow plant guarantee for slopes in best conditions already at the beginning of the season. Wonderful descents through the wood and panoramic sun hills try to attract the skiers’ attention: beginners as well as experts. The friendly skiing instructors teach young and old: the former on the slopes, the latter in the child’s paradise. The huts are rustic and cosy, the ambiance is familial and after the first descent you are already on a first-name basis with the men who help you when getting on the ropeway. On the Rosskopf everybody knows everybody – and that’s one of its trade marks.

“Skiing area Ladurns – Small but nice”

The skiing area Ladurns in the valley of Pflersch is about 10 kilometres northern of Sterzing and is easily accessible by car within a few minutes. The skier awaits 12 slope kilometres and 2 chairlifts.

The view alone on the Dolomites massif of the Tribulaun justifies the stay in the smallest skiing area of the proximity. But Ladurns has to offer way more than this: no other skiing area has such wonderful long descents through the wood with blue, red and black trails. The location of the north-facing slopes account for optimal conditions until late April, so that Ladurns is a real insider tip especially in late winter.

You will be surprised! Small but nice!

Skiing area Ratschings (1300-2100 metres above sea level) – the rock arena

The skiing area Ratschings-Jaufen is one of the most popular high-capacity skiing areas of South Tyrol. State-of-the-art ascending systems, absolute snow-reliability, a superb gastronomic choice and its stunning rock scenery turn Ratschings to a unique experience.

The skier awaits 8 chair lifts and 25 slope kilometres. By car you only need a short time (about 10 kilometres) to reach Ratschings or you can use the free of charge ski bus (3 times in the morning to go there, 3 times in the afternoon to come back to Sterzing). The particular snow reliability and the modern artificial snow plant assure the start of the season at the beginning of December and assure descents down to the valley (1300 metres). You can choose ascending systems and slopes above the forest line with an amazing panorama view on the mountain scenery of the valleys of Ratschings, Ridnaun and Sarntal. The well-known peak Jaufenspitz with the pass of the same name, which leads to the Sarntal and to Meran, watches over the impressive rock arena. The slopes invite you to experience the ski-runs through forest aisles down to the valley. The hills are diversified; ideal for all levels. There is also a fun park for snowboarders and snow freaks. A toboggan run completes the options.

As special feature Ratschings offers the possibility to night skiing once a week (on Wednesdays). And of course you will enjoy après-ski and shindig in the party huts of Ratschings as nowhere else! Fresh powder ahoy!!!
